Pub and place to eat Ohakune.
The Powderhorn Chateau.
The Powderkeg
exploded into life during the late ‘80s
and early ‘90s, with an innovative menu
including steaks cooked on hot rocks and original
‘après’ bar fare.

‘Après ski’ was considered
as much a drawcard as skiing in itself; the Powderkeg
crowd would often be seen spilling onto the streets
upsetting the flow of traffic! Now the ‘keg’
is a kiwi icon, continuing to serve hungry alpine
dwellers generous portions of hearty cuisine and
mulled wine. It is conveniently located at the
bottom of the mountain road and open every day
from 9am till late.

For those in
the know, The Matterhorn Restaurant
and Bar is Ohakune’s hidden
gem situated above the Powderkeg. |
Sit at the
Rimu bar enjoying a beautifully crafted
cocktail before dinner or finish with a
cognac next to the open fire. Huge open
beams, native wood interiors and rich leather
give it a warm, luxurious ambience. Cuisine
incorporates fresh local ingredients with
European style and contemporary flavour.
This is one of the best places to indulge
and escape!
