Methven - Canterbury

Porter Heights CLOSED FOR 2006

With enough snow one of the few places in New Zealand where you can get a sense of big mountain skiing and riding. Can be epic but check snow levels first 1.5m plus base is what you want.

Mount Hutt OPEN Last weekend this weekend

This is a very consistent mountain with a wide range of terrain for all levels if you are going to the South Island and want guaranteed results go here. Its a basin though so be warned if the South face is not open it can be a little bit limited for experts.

Wanaka - Central Otago

Treble Cone CLOSED FOR 2006

A big mountain offering some of New Zealand's best advanced and expert runs. Access road not the best but worth the visit if you are looking for challenging terrain. Can be wicked.

Cardrona CLOSED FOR 2006

Cardrona is one of New Zealand's leading snow areas offering a range of terrain mainly focused around intermediate and beginner levels. There is some great expert terrain to be had though and its all on New Zealand's consistently highest quality snow.

Snow boarders flock to Cardrona where extensive terrain parks and pipes are available. Also a great place to take the family.

Queenstown- Central Otago

Coronet PeakCLOSED FOR 2006

Coronet Peak is the original place to ski in New Zealand. It is a concave mountain offering awesome diversity of terrain with runs for all levels. It is one of New Zealand's lowest ski fields and has extensive snowmaking so can be a little hard packed at times.

On the positive front Coronet can be absolutely awesome and with its quick access from Queenstown and great mountain road its a must visit

Remarkables CLOSED FOR 2006

Remarkables is the second ski field in Queenstown and offer terrain that is good for beginners and some great advanced and expert terrain. Intermediates will probably enjoy Coronet peak more.
