The beasty boy calms his nerves
The latest volcanic news from Ruapehu is that GNS are reporting the volcano has calmed its nerves a little and the possibility of eruption whilst always present at Ruapehu has declined. Check out the GNS update here. This is a good piece of news in terms of potential to disrupt our ski season but there remains a threat around the crater so please maintain caution if you are up there.

Volcano Erupts in 2007
Almost on the 12th anniversary of the 95 eruption the volcano jumped into life in 2007. Producing Lahars and injuring some climbers staying in one of the huts. The Hydrothermal eruption happened suddenly and was unexpected. A timely reminder of the respect we need to show this active volcano. This was not a big eruption as such just a small one by Ruapehu standards but still extremely hazardous if you were close to it.
